Bikram Yoga

Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises, performed in a heated room. Each class follows the same structure, and runs ninety minutes long.

The class is designed to be accessible to any person, from any background, with any physical concern, and at any fitness level.

With the help of leading scientists and doctors, Bikram Choudhury developed the series in accordance with the teachings of his guru Bishnu Ghosh, and with the philosophies of traditional Hatha Yoga. Each posture leads to the next, addressing every muscle, joint, gland, organ, and system until the whole body is worked, “from bones to skin, fingertips to toes.” The results are an increase in overall health, rehabilitation of injuries and chronic conditions, stress reduction, pain relief, and improved performance both mentally and physically.

Because it is challenging, the class works the mind as well as the body, developing the mental aspects of faith, self-control, determination, concentration, and patience. As students learn to use their breath and their mental discipline with the postures, they advance within the series. As the body and mind respond to a dedicated practice, the challenges of the class change and grow deeper. In this way, the class always operates at an appropriate level for each student, regardless of his or her experience.

About us

Divi and Ed Bikram Yoga Victoria is co-owned and operated by husband and wife Ed Light and Divi Chandna, MD, who are also dedicated practitioners and instructors. From backgrounds of social work and medicine respectively, they bring their unique experiences to the business of running a studio, and to the philosophy of the yoga itself. They have found their passion through the yoga, and the result is an energetic, thriving yoga family here in Victoria.

Adele The studio is centrally located and open seven days a week, offering full facilities for men and women, including a common area, showers and lockers, and a mat and towel rental service. Since opening in 2002, we have been expanding and adding classes to the schedule almost every season to accommodate the growing number of students. And, as the studio continues to grow, we continue to welcome new teachers from Teacher Training every fall and spring.

It is our priority to uphold the standards of Bikram Yoga, and we maintain constant involvement with headquarters and Teacher Training in order to do so. Each of our instructors is certified in the Bikram Method, and every day we are privileged to witness our students thrive as they practice the traditional Bikram Yoga class.
